Dear Mums and Dads,
A few weeks ago I decided to write a post about baby and toddler classes in Beckenham. I remember looking for new activities and fun for my little boys before they started school so I thought it would be helpful to do a little research to identify the favourite classes around the area.
I posted a survey through my local mum’s groups on Facebook to get some parents’ opinions and suggestions and to raise awareness for new and exciting activities.
I then reached out to the class owners to get more detailed information. I thought that it would be nice to add some professional photos too so I had some fun joining in the classes and taking a few shots.
So here we go, the favourite classes around Beckenham

STORY TRAIL CLUB
Story Trail Club, Azelia Hall, Beckenham
Fridays 10-11.30am, term time only, £6 per child
(£3 under 18 months and siblings)
Story Trail Club is a play session, themed each week by a different story.
‘I’m Really Ever so Not Well’ by Lauren Child was the chosen book when I attended – the children loved listening to Emma and Marie perform the Charlie & Lola story with props, before going off to explore the different activities around the hall.
I was very impressed with the detail of the setup – tuff trays with water, messy and imaginative play AND all linked to the story!
The children were very engaged with what was on offer and a café corner with drinks and refreshments included provided the perfect pit stop for tired parents!
Definitely one to try with your pre-schoolers if you have not already!
Fridays – 9.30am- 10.00 and 10.30 – 11.00am at The Mansion, Beckenham Place Park £4.00 per child The classes are drop in so just pop by and join in.
Helen, along with her puppet owl Toot has an array of cute animals, toys and instruments who appear from the treasure chest, boxes and knitted bags to keep the children on a musical journey.
Helen says “I started learning music aged 8 when my grandparents bought me a flute and I have loved music ever since. I’d drive my family bonkers with tin whistles and learning tunes, and taught myself piano at age 13! I studied performing arts at university and always have managed to combine my love for the arts and music with working with different communities of people of all ages and just love how music can reach everyone”

Maxwell Mini Music provides a nurturing, caring environment for babies and young children to enjoy their earliest educational experiences. All the classes are designed and led by Janey, a mother, musician, music graduate and qualified teacher.
Lessons are inspired by Zoltan Kodály’s philosophy of music education and use singing to prepare, present and practice a sequential approach to acquiring musical skills. In the Early Years, the selected songs are carefully pitched to encourage children to join in comfortably and safely for their young voices.
Janey works independently and in a local nursery and local primary schools. Her Maxwell Mini Music classes with the under 5s, ‘prepare’ the basic musical skills of singing and moving to a steady beat.
Maxwell Mini Music is divided into different classes:
The Jumplings Group is for children over 30 months who are steady on their feet. These classes are fairly mobile and devote time to music providing opportunities to develop fine motor skills and the children’s singing voices.
The Baby & Bobbler sessions are for babies and children up to 30 months. An opportunity for parents and carers to learn new songs for sharing with baby and toddlers to enhance bonding and personal development.
Maxwell Mini Music classes are held on Mondays during school term time in St. George’s Church, Beckenham. Jumplings meet at 10:00 and the Baby & Bobbler sessions are at 11:00.
